Eight is Great!

This morning was a perfect morning for a long run!  I prefer cold and the temps were right at 32 this morning with no wind.  Nice and crisp!

The plan was a solo run of 8 miles as I build up to my first half-marathon in March.  I love that the day before a longer, challenging run I get a kind of nervous energy and I begin seeing the run.  I start imagining specific hills and landmarks and picture myself running stong.  I woke up this morning ready to go!

This was only the second time I have run 8 miles or more.  The first time was a 15k trail race back in November and I had gradually built up to the distance in a series of other races.  By the time I reached the 15k, I knew I could run it.  Aside from the recent Renegade runs where we do the run/walk of 10 miles, I had not run a pure long run in a while so I wasn’t sure how it would come off.

I am happy to say that I enjoyed it thoroughly!  I was able to find a good pace right away which allowed me to focus more on my surroundings than on the actual run.  It was a very comfortable, meditative run which took me through some beautiful neighborhoods and a gorgeous sunrise.  I felt really strong through the first six miles and once I started feeling some fatigue and a few aches in my legs, I was able to muscle through it and even had some left on the last half mile.  I knew the end was near and I was actually able to pick up my pace.

Look forward to the week ahead!

  1. Congrats on 8! Wait til you finish your first double digits run–there’s no feeling like it (other than when you cross the finish line after your first half marathon, that is!)
